Materials and care

My wood carving knives are all made of high carbon tool steel with added nickel for corrosion resistance and as such should be occasionally oiled with mineral oil or waxed with a product like Minwax finish wax paste to prevent rust.

Also oil or wax after sharpening or exposure to water. Learn how to sharpen them here!

The handles are yellow cedar and are unfinished. They will develop a nice dark patina with use and require no maintenance.

These straight knives are approximately 1" long and 1/4" wide and are great for carving small details, V cuts and working on smaller projects like rattles, spoons, etc.

If you need to carve details and work on small pieces, this is the knife you want.

The knife's handle is 6" to 7" long, suitable for single handed use.

Construction:

The knife blade is made from 1/16" thick high carbon tool steel with nickel for added durability and corrosion resistance, expertly heat treated to produce one of the strongest and sharpest knives on the market. It comes razor sharp and ready to carve.

The blade is epoxy cast solidly into the handle using a proprietary process and then bound in compression with tarred seine twine for ultimate strength. It will never come loose and I offer a 1 year warranty against all manufactures defects.

Each knife is hand made and will vary slightly from the picture and listed dimensions.

Additional Info:

The 3 variants vary in how the tip and edge come together:

  • Straight back allows more of a slicing action for cleanly and easily removing stock.
  • Wharncliffe lets you easily know exactly where the tip of the knife is going to be in a V cut.
  • Drop point is more of a general purpose knife that is good for both tasks.
