My wood carving knives are all made of high carbon tool steel with added nickel for corrosion resistance and as such should be occasionally oiled with mineral oil or waxed with a product like Minwax finish wax paste to prevent rust.

Also oil or wax after sharpening or exposure to water. Learn how to sharpen them here!

The handles are yellow cedar and are unfinished. They will develop a nice dark patina with use and require no maintenance.

Green polishing compound is a great economical alternative to diamond pastes for sharpening wood carving knives or any other type of wood carving tool. It is the equivalent to about 2000 grit.

Weight is over 100g, and is 1.5" x 4.5" and it is slightly over 1/2" thick.

This wax based compound is like a crayon in nature and can be applied to almost any surface softer then your wood carving knife to create a lap to sharpen your wood carving knives with. Common surfaces include leather, MDF, wood, poster board and aluminum.

I cast this polishing compound from the highest quality chromium oxide based polishing compound I could find into a dimensional size I feed was ideal for grip and spreading quickly on to hones of most any shape or size.

In typical use sharpening wood carving knives one of these bars will easily last years of heavy use and will not degrade with age if kept clean of dust.
